Theatre Reverb
Theatre Reverb is an ensemble of interdisciplinary artists from the United States and Central Europe that specializes in the creation of original performance pieces and spectacles. Their work is influenced by silent cinema, popular culture, circus arts and classical Indian theatre, which company members trained in together in Kerala India. Their stylized productions combine loose narrative, dance, video and spectacle with sampled material from mass media, popular culture and news headlines. Their live performance pieces and video works have explored topical issues from militarism and fear culture to sexual politics and celebrity worship. The New York press has called Theatre Reverb: the “pre-postmodernism of Tristan Tzara and Dada”; “fringe theatre at it’s very best”; “spontaneous, endearingly eccentric and extremely funny”; and a “strip tease/garbage fest/dance party.”
Since 2006 Theatre Reverb has produced four original full-length performance pieces and a number of short spectacles and video works that have been shown at venues throughout New York (e.g. Under St Marks, Teatro La Tea, The Red Room, Galapagos Art Space, and The Kraine). They have performed original works in festivals across the United States and Canada and won “Audience Choice” and “Sold Out” awards for their FRIGID New York production, ExcesSecret: “¿Guess What ‘It’s’ About?”. The company was featured on the Polish television program Oblicza Ameryki and is scheduled to perform their latest piece in Warsaw.
Theatre Reverb is currently in residency at Galapagos Art Space where its members are regular performers and emcees for the venue’s flagship weekly series The Floating Kabarette.
“I was, once again, blown away by Theater Reverb’s ability to to go off the deep end and take me right along with them. They are the direction I hope theatre is headed.” – nyTheatre.com
“Theater Reverb is not so much Postmodern in the Sam Shepard or Wooster Group way, as it is a pre-Modern Postmodernism of Tristan Tzara and Dada… More to the point, their sexually suggestive hijinks and wonderfully expressive faces transcend theater theory and offer what every theatergoer of any level of sophistication really wants: something so funny you almost pee your pants watching it.” – Cultural Capitol
“Theatre Reverb owes much of its unique theatrical style to the diversity of its multidisciplinary core members.” – Back Stage
“Theatre Reverb is a company experimenting with the experimental.” – POLSAT 2/Polish Television Network
