Galapagos Art Space presents Get Smart, a Salon-style and sensorial exploration of the brilliant age-of-ideas we live within.
Get Smart trumpets the best thinking across an array of topics and frames them in an entire night out with beautiful trapeze artists, cabaret performers, live music, and wonderful fruit or vegetable with tincture based cocktails. Each evening will feature three dynamic 15-minute lectures, punctuated by performances from Galapagos’ Saturday-night-sensation, FLOATING KABARETTE!

Chris Bannon Program Director at WNYC New York Public Radio, Chris Bannon has spent over 20 years working in public broadcasting in a variety of roles, including membership and development, live radio comedy-variety shows, news, digital media and programming. He helped launch WNYC’s Jerome L. Greene space, WQXR and the Takeaway, and shared a 2007 Peabody Award as part of the Brian Lehrer show. He currently oversees WNYC’s three live weekday talk shows and their hosts and serves as the executive in charge of PRI’s Studio 360.

Harriet Cole Best-selling author, nationally syndicated columnist, editor and life coach, Cole is the former Editor-in-Chief of Ebony magazine. During her tenure at Ebony, she produced iconic covers featuring President Barack Obama and first lady Michelle Obama, Michael Jackson for his final photo shoot and interview, and Prince. Cole wrote an advice column in the New York Daily News, had made appearances on “Oprah” and the “Today” show including previous editorial stints at Uptown, Savoy and Essence. Harriette Cole is the president and creative director of Harriette Cole Media.

Ben Flanner Widely recognized as a leader in rooftop urban agriculture Ben Flanner is the head farmer and one of the founders of the Brooklyn Grange, the world’s largest roof top farm (40,000 square foot) in Long Island City, Queens. Prior to founding the Brooklyn Grange farm, Flanner co-founded and manages the Eagle Street Rooftop Farm in Greenpoint, Brooklyn. A pioneer in the sustainable urban farming model, he was awarded the LICBDC Green Business Award in 2010.

The Red Hook Ramblers are a New Orleans-style hot jazz band, coming straight out of Brooklyn! They are intent on preserving the music that permanently changed the American cultural landscape in the early part of the 20th century and bringing live traditional jazz to new audiences around the world.

Harvest Moon, also known as The Sultry Siren of Burlesque, began her career by founding the legendary dance troupe The Cantankerous Lollies in 1995. Miss Moon’s troupe quickly became San Francisco’s premiere showgirl act, known for their Montmartre-style cabarets, including rousing Can-Cans which would’ve made Toulouse Lautrec proud. Harvest has also performed with members of Cirque Du Soliel in the 2005 production of “The Love Show”.
