Galapagos Art Space's new location in DUMBO is on target to become New York City's first LEED certified 'green' cultural venue. It has a 1600 square-foot lake, island seating on the lake, and the lake is surrounded by a wrap around mezzanine with operatic 'box-style’ seating.

Our new neighborhood - DUMBO, Brooklyn - is beautiful; a romantic neighborhood of sunken cobblestone streets set between the Brooklyn and Manhattan Bridges where Galapagos has converted a turn-of-the-century horse stable - next to the Brooklyn Bridge Park - into a stunning new venue. The New York Times called our first location - in Williamsburg - "seductive" and “truly sublime…an ever-growing cultural oasis”. Zagat called it “Gorgeous” and our décor was rated “Extraordinary to Perfection" - and we made six "Best Of" categories in the guide. We're extremely grateful for those reviews. But the great

news is that in DUMBO we think we've built something that far surpasses what we were able to build for $60,000 in 1995 Williamsburg.

Our cultural mission and weddings / special events:
Galapagos presents theater, dance, performance art, cinema, and music, and doesn’t accept government grants or public funding of any kind. We believe that if we produce strong, communicative and effective work audiences will support us, and for a decade it’s worked.

Hosting and producing weddings and special events of all kinds helps us achieve that mission and supports the most delicate aspects of our programming. More weddings equals more dance and theater programs, and makes possible the entirety of our children's programs. We know that and we recognize that weddings and special events are critical to our success, and therefore we treat them that way. We might only do ten to fifteen weddings a year - we're not a wedding mill - but that's also our advantage. We care, and to us each wedding or special event is important and unique, and interesting.
